Punjab Kings dominated Royal Challengers Bangalore in both departments and forced RCB to face their third loss in IPL 2021.

How did the encounter start?

Virat Kohli won the toss and invited the KL Rahul-led Punjab team to bat first. Both the teams came in with some changes, Shahbaz Ahmed replaced Washington Sundar for RCB.

Punjab had three changes in their team with Riley Meredith, Prabhsimran Singh, and Harpreet Brar in for Moises Henriques, Arshdeep Singh, and Mayank Agarwal.

KL Rahul came in with Prabhsimran Singh to open the innings for PBKS. Prabhsimran came in place of Mayank Agarwal who was not completely to play this game, but he was not able to show his skills with bat and was dismissed early by Kyle Jamieson in the 4th over at 7(7).

RCB vs KXIP IPL 2020: Put Some Respect on The Name - Chris Gayle Makes Immediate Impact on Comeback

Vintage Gayle storm!!

Cricket fans witnessed the “Universe Boss” in his traditional form, firing with his bat. The first show came in the 6th over by Kyle Jamieson in which he smashed five boundaries and took the PBKS score to 49-1 in the powerplay.

Gayle continued his fierce batting against each RCB bowler and Rahul was playing cautiously backing Gayle to play his way. The duo completed 50 run partnership for the second wicket in the 8th over.

Soon, Rahul also joined with Gayle in hitting big shots and both took PBKS to 90-1 after 10 overs. RCB in the search of a wicket handed the ball to Daniel Sams and he justified this decision by getting Gayle’s wicket and terminated his innings at 46(24).

KL Rahul registered his fifty in just 35 balls and proposed his contention for orange cap.

RCB jerked PBKS in middle overs

RCB was able to halt the run flow in the middle overs. Nicholas Pooran was again dismissed for a duck, fourth in this season by Kyle Jamieson. RCB spinners foxed PBKS, Deepak Hooda was taken by Shahbaz Ahmed and Shahrukh was dismissed by a googly by Chahal.

From 90-1 to 119-5, the momentum shifted towards team RCB.

Rahul-Harpreet saved PBKS

The whole responsibility was on the shoulders of captain KL Rahul to help PBKS to score a decent score after such a brilliant start.

He got sharp support by Harpreet in the death overs who struck some big hits against Harshal Patel and Siraj. Due to fearless batting by this duo, purple cap holder Harshal Patel conceded 40 runs in his last 2 overs.

With help of Rahul 91*(57) and Harpreet 25*(17) PBKS put 179-5 on the board.

The desired start for PBKS

RCB came with their in-form opening pair Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal to chase a target of 180 runs. Devdutt was carrying a great form with the bat, but not too good in front of Riley Meredith as the left-hander was bowled out by Meredith in 3rd over.

After this wicket RCB was playing safe due to tight bowling by Punjab bowlers and RCB was 36-1 after 6 overs.

Virat Kohli along with Rajat Patidar carried RCB score towards the target cautiously without taking much risk.

RCB completed 62-1 after 10 overs with both the batsmen settled on the crease.

PBKS vs RCB, Indian Premier League: Fans Hail Harpreet Brar After He Dismisses Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers | Cricket News

A dream spell by Harpreet Brar

The 11th over by Harpreet Brar turned out to be a match-defining over as he got two big wickets in the same over. He got his maiden IPL wicket in the form of Virat Kohli at 35(34) and dangerous batsman Glenn Maxwell on the next ball. The double wicket maiden over ignited the spark in the match.

In his next over he got the wicket of AB de Villers 3(9). Simply awesome, what a great start for the young man, getting Virat, Maxwell, and de Villers as his first wickets.

Jordan got rid of Rajat Patidar on 31(30) in the 15th over leaving the equation of 88 runs off 30 balls for RCB.

Later right arm wrist spinner Ravi Bishnoi took consecutive wickets in the form of Shahbaz Ahmed and Daniel Sams.

With 78 runs needed for the final three overs, Harshal Patel tried too hard and played a quick cameo of 31 runs in just 13 deliveries. But unfortunately, it was too late for RCB to get back to the contention of victory and they were 34 runs behind the victory.
