Prithvi Shaw demolished Kolkata Knight Riders with his lofty batting
Delhi crushed Kolkata in both the departments, and dazzling batting by Prithvi Shaw stood out from others. His fierce innings of 82 run aided Delhi to finish the game with 21 balls sparing.
Except for Shubhman Gill and Andre Russell, no other KKR batsmen made much difference in their batting.
Let’s check out how the match started.
KKR came in to bat first against Delhi Capitals with the intention get their third win of the season. Opening pair had been an issue for KKR in this IPL, though Nitish Rana had a good start to the season, lost his form after few matches.
Shubhman Gill was facing the low scoring issue from the first match, but today the scenes were different. Gill was looking stable with his bat and gave a steady start to KKR. However, Rana failed to take his innings ahead and was stumped out by Axar Patel in the 4th over of the game.
Rahul Tripathi, who was having a decent season with the bat, stuck out by Stoinis on 19(17). Shubhman, though, saved his wicket but was very cautious with his shots and taking his innings without taking much risk.
Delhi Capitals was at 73-2 after 10 overs with Gill and Morgan on the crease.
Lalit Yadav came out of the syllabus.
Lalit Yadav bowled his best over so far, in which he got two big wickets of Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine. The two left-handers were out without getting any runs, on a duck.
These consecutive wickets took jerked KKR, and Delhi came back in the dominance. Later, Shubhman’s innings also came to an end in the 13th over by Avesh Khan at 43(38).
Birthday Boy Russell’s crucial contribution
Delhi successfully restricted KKR batsmen to play big shots in the middle overs. KKR’s score was 95-5 after 15 overs with Dinesh Karthik 9*(6) and Andre Russell 7*(14) on the crease.
Initially, Russell struggled to hit big shots but soon got his aggression back. He made a quickfire of 45 runs in just 27 deliveries, consisting of two fours and four sixes. These innings helped KKR to post 150+ runs on board.
Delhi Capitals had a target of 155 runs in 20 overs.
Burning bating by Prithvi
In the counter-attack, Delhi got the best start of the season with Prithvi Shaw’s flaming batting. Prithvi smashed six back-to-back boundaries in the very first over of the game by Shivam Mavi. With this over, he made a clear mark that he is carrying great form this game.
On the other end, Shikhar Dhawan was playing safe and giving freedom to Prithvi to play his game.
Delhi posted the best powerplay score of IPL 2021 of 67 runs without facing any
Prithvi completed his fifty in just 18 deliveries, the fastest half-century of IPL 2021. Delhi was in a stable condition as they completed 95 runs in 10 overs without any wicket.
They were heading towards the target very comfortably, with at least hitting one boundary in every over. Only could have been saved Kolkata from the defeat.
Cummins gave a hope
They got their first wicket in 14th over in the form of Dhawan, who was out for a leg before wicket by an angled full toss by Pat Cummins.
Later, he also got Prithvi Shaw in the 16th over and terminated entertaining innings by Prithvi on 82(41).
Rishabh Pant tried to finish the game early but could not finish the game and was dismissed by Pat Cummins at 16(8). Though his partner Marcus Stoinis completed the target with a four and Delhi won by 7 wickets in 16.3 overs.Delhi again climbed to the second spot in the points table, whereas KKR are still on the hunt for their third win in this season.
