Player of the Match: AB de Villers 75*(42)

RCB reclaims its top position beating DC in a last-ball thrill match at Motera stadium. Delhi Capitals almost took away victory with them but unfortunately failed at the end and were one run short from the win.

AB de Villers scored a brilliant unbeaten score of 75 that aided RCB to post a 170+ run mark on the board. In the counter-attack by Delhi Capitals, the dangerous left-hander duo, Shimron Hetmeyer, and Rishabh Pant, with their unbeaten fifties, made the run chase more interesting. Still, Siraj shone in the last over and defended 14 runs in the final over.

Match Highlights

Delhi started their bowling attack with Ishant Sharma, who came in place of Ravi Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, and Avesh Khan. RCB’s opening pair looked well and had the momentum of the last match but didn’t last long.

Captain Virat Kohli was dismissed in the 4th over of the game by Avesh Khan. Later Devdutt Padikkal was clean bowled by Ishant Sharma in the next over.

After the departure of both the opening batsmen, Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell got the responsibility to carry RCB’s innings.

Glenn Maxwell, who is in the dream form of his IPL career, didn’t make any huge difference with his bat and was dismissed by Amit Mishra by scoring just 25(20).

Superman de Villers show!!

RCB’s score was 68/3 after the end of 10 overs with AB de Villers and Rajat Patidar on the crease. Both the batsmen had a great partnership in the middle overs before Rajat Patidar31(22) tried to send Axar’s ball out of the boundary and was caught by Steven Smith.

After this wicket, the whole responsibility was on AB de Villers to post a defendable score on the board, and he knew how to do it.

He completely ruled DC bowlers in the death overs, especially in the last over by Marcus Stoinis; he scored 23 runs in that over. This amazing fifty by de Villers helped RCB to complete their innings at 171/5.

RCB got desired start

In defense of 172 runs, RCB started very well by getting the wicket of Delhi’s star batsman Shikhar Dhawan in the 3rd over by Kyle Jamieson. In the next over, Steven Smith also gave away his wicket to Siraj by giving a simple catch to the keeper.

Prithivi Shaw also failed to hold his wicket and got dismissed by Purple Cap holder Harshal Patel at 21(18).

DC was at 62/3 after the end of half gameplay. Rishabh Pant and Marcus Stoinis were on the pitch continued the run chase.

Harshal Patel got the ball in 13th over and again showed his worth by dismissing Marcus Stoinis on 22(17).   

After Stoinis, Windies left-hander Shimron Hetmeyer joined captain Rishabh Pant in the run chase. DC needed 56 runs in the last 4 overs and was expecting some big hits by this duo.

RCB constrained DC in the death overs

Tough, Rishabh was finding it hard to middle the deliveries, Shimron Hetmeyer was in another zone. He was in top gear of his innings and scored 21 runs in the 18th over off Kyle Jamieson.

With 14 runs to be defended in the last over, RCB sent Siraj to do the job, and he successfully did it. DC needed 6 runs off the last ball; Pant tried his best but could only hit a four and ended with 2 runs short from the victory.
