Dhoni explained the reason for his Unavailability in the tour of West Indies through an official mail to BCCI.
The veteran is an honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the parachute regiment of the territorial army. BCCI sources informed that he had committed to serving the regiment for a couple of months.
“We have now intimated his decision to skipper Virat Kohli and chairman of selectors MSK Prasad,” the senior official added.
Rishabh Pant is expected to be the first wicketkeeper in all three formats while Wriddhiman Saha will be the first choice for Tests as Dhoni is pulling out of the tour.
With two T20 world cups in just a space of two and half years, the focus will be on the T20 cricket and we might see some fresh faces.
The good news is that an official end to
all the speculation has been made as Dhoni is not retiring from the
cricket any time soon. His long time friend and manager Arun Pandey also came out and stated he is in no mood to retire.
“He has no immediate plans to retire. The constant speculation over the future of a great player like him is unfortunate,” Pandey told PTI.
Dhoni, 38, has intimated his decision to the BCCI before the selection committee meeting on Sunday.
